Google to Upgrade Stanford University Broadband Network

"Officials from Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced that the tech giant will build an ultra-high speed broadband network at Stanford University, PCMag.com reports Thursday.

The network will be built for a residential community at the university, which houses 850 faculty and staff.

Officials said Internet speed through the broadband network will be one gigabit per second, which is over 100 times as fast as what most people have access to today.

The project is scheduled to begin in early 2011.

The company has reported $27.6 billion in sales over the past 12 months and is expected to report $25.1 billion in sales in the next fiscal year."
